Riding’s Geography Star
Partha Narasimhan, a sixth-grader at
Mercer Middle School, placed first in the 2007 Virginia Geography
Bee held Friday, March 30, at Old Dominion University in
Norfolk.
Partha will now go on to represent Virginia at the
national finals May 22-23 at the National Geographic Society
headquarters in Washington, D.C., along with the state winners from
other states. As the state winner, Partha receives $100 and the trip
to Washington, D.C. The national winner will receive a $25,000
college scholarship.
This is the second year Partha has
placed at the Virginia Geography Bee. He placed third last year as a
fifth-grader at Hutchison Farm Elementary. Way to go
Partha!
Community Shred Reminder
The First Annual South Riding Community Shred will be
Saturday, April 21, at the parking lot on the corner of South Riding
Blvd. and Center Street. It will be begin at 8 a.m. and will end at
noon.
Residents can bring one 15x12x10 size box per household
to have shredded at the low cost of $5. You must be in line by 11:30
a.m.
