Well, today’s newsletter will contain some of the newest dinosaur/prehistoric animal
news on the Discovery Channel. I hope nobody who knows me will be
surprised.
According to some new discoveries,
the dinosaurs’ famed (or maybe infamous) 150 million years (or so they
say) of world domination was just luck, in much the same way as human
domination for the last 1 million years or so. Scientists described
that if they were around during the early days of the dinosaurs, it
would seem like the crurotarsans, who BTW are the ancestors of crocodiles, would appear to be the dominant
group, just like if they had been there during the late Cretaceous it
would seem the dinosaurs would rule the planet forever. Instead, a
rather obscure (well, nobody talks about it as much as some
others) extinction that occurred about two hundred million years ago
ended up being a huge setback for the crurotarsans (though do remember
that they still came out with ferocious creatures like Deinosuchus,
who can fight with T-Rex and win!). Previously, it was thought that
the dinosaurs were the superior creatures since they evolved more
quickly and dominated the planet for about 150 million years.
