What is Evolution?
The word
evolution means “unfolding.” It is used to describe the way all living
things change with time, or evolve. Evolution happens so slowly we
usually can't see its effects. Scientists study evolution by comparing
life forms over time.
Both
the earth and the things that live on it have changed over billions of
years. Pictured here are Hyracotherium (a horse-like animal that lived
60 million years ago) and a modern horse. Horses–and all other animals
and plants–are still changing.
