Inner Planets

The fourth planet from the Sun is Mars. It is much smaller than the Earth, but has many similar features. For example, its surface is marked with deep craters, massive volcanoes, steep mountains, dusty deserts, and huge valleys. The planet also has ice caps, like those found on Earth. However, the temperature on Mars rarely rises above freezing and there is no liquid water. This planet is named after the Roman god of war.
