Inner Planets

The planet most similar to our own is Venus. It is almost the same size as Earth, it has an atmosphere, and it is rocky. The greenhouse effect, caused by carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, keeps temperatures on Venus very high. Named after the Roman goddess of love, this planet is easy to see in the Earth's sky. Brightly lit by the Sun, Venus appears in our sky shortly before sunrise or just after sunset.
