Dal Fry

Ingredients

1 cup Toovar dal

21/2 cups Water
-
1/2 teaspoon Turmeric powder

3 tablespoons Oil

3/4 cup Chopped onions
-
1 teaspoon Chopped garlic

1 teaspoon Chopped ginger
-
1 teaspoon Chopped green chilies
-
1/2 teaspoon Cumin seeds
-
1 pinch Asafetida
-
1 cup Chopped tomatoes
-
1 teaspoon Chili powder
-
1/4 teaspoon Turmeric powder

1/4 cup Chopped coriander leaves

Method
Wash and soak the dal in 21/2
cups of water for about 30 minutes. Pressure cook till the dal is done. Cook
uncovered further on a medium flame for 2 minutes. Do not mash the dal.

Heat oil in a small pan, add the
chopped onion, garlic, ginger, green chilies and cumin seeds. Fry on a medium
flame for about 3-4 minutes, stirring often.

Add the turmeric powder, chili
powder, salt, and chopped tomatoes and fry on a high flame for 3 minutes. Add
into the cooked dal and mix well.

Serve hot garnished with coriander leaves.
