Serves: 4-6

Ingredients

  • 1½ cup green whole moong dal (green whole lentil)

  • 1 large onion, chopped

  • 2 tomatoes, chopped

  • 1 tbsp ginger-garlic crushed

  • 3 green chilies, chopped

  • 1 bay leaf

  • ½ tsp turmeric powder

  • 1 tsp coriander powder

  • ½ tsp cumin powder

  • ¼ tsp chili powder

  • ¼ tsp garam masala powder

  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil

  • salt to taste

  • juice of 1 lemon

  • handful of chopped coriander leaves

Method

  1. Wash and soak the lentil (dal) for 4-5 hours.

  2. Heat oil in a pressure cooker. Add the bay leaf and onions.

  3. Fry till onions turn light brown.

  4. Now add the green chilies and ginger-garlic.

  5. Sauté for a minute.

  6. Now add tomatoes and the dry spices.

  7. Fry for a minute. Add the washed, soaked lentil (dal)

  8. Mix well and add 2½ cups of warm water.

  9. Add little salt, coriander leaves and lime-juice.

  10. Close lid and pressure cook for 15 minutes.

Serve hot with rice or rotis.
